So You Need a Summer Intern…

Your organization may be thinking about hiring a summer intern, but aren’t sure where to start or how to make sure you hire a strong candidate.

The Portland Experience (PDXeX), a program of the School of Journalism and Communication, can help!

The students who participate are soon-to-be graduates in public relations, advertising and journalism. The members of this year’s cohort were selected through a competitive process — 50 students applied and 25 were selected. All are available full-time and chosen specifically because I think they’ll do an outstanding job.

I work closely with the students to prepare and provide each hiring organization with insights and info about the potential intern.

What are the expectations for the hiring organization?

  • Offer a position that pays at least minimum wage and offers 30+ hours a week of work.
  • Work with the student to create a plan for the summer that sets clear goals and expectations.
